A former police officer and criminal investigator with an advanced law enforcement certification, Carole often writes as an expert on criminal justice and law enforcement issues. Her other specialties include the military, personal security, true crime, personal finance, profiles, home remodeling and renovation, parenting teenagers and environmental and animal issues. She also writes humor and fiction.

She is a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA) and the NBCC (National Book Critics Circle).

She lives on the coast of North Carolina with her husband, two teenagers and family pets. Her hobbies include traveling and talking about herself in the third person.
